The identity of a place lies with its people and lives they live. Heritage, culture ,belief and struggle are essential ingredients in shaping the thinking of people of a region. Nigeria has had her fair share of ups and downs . The glories of the past and the fleeting hope for  tomorrow. Nigeria in her glory stood tall among the world’s best,  serving as a dawn of a new age ,  and fierce in the faces of adversity and injustice, both home and abroad. But decades of regressions is enough to discourage her people on the possibility of a better tomorrow. Nigeria remains Nigeria, and the gallantry and resilience of its people did not wane. The everyday challenges could distract us of our inherent identity but what if another perspective is revealed for us to see, the vestige of old architectures, the resplendence of our cultures, folklores that comes to life, clusters of people with shared interest, patterns from the sky, beauties of nature ,unique landscapes and communities that holds nostalgic memories.  Another Nigeria exists and is ever present but its only revealed when we are ready to see it, to guide us towards an optimistic future.

Hope in the Trunk of Necessity

This photograph captures the everyday pulse of Bodija Market in Ibadan. The ground is covered with baskets of onions, the "Alubọsa" and these onions give us a powerful way to see the people. Like the alubosa, every person here has layers. The clothes they wear are like the onion's dry outer shell. It is the visible layer they present to the world, the one they use to move through their daily lives. But beneath that shell, just as peeling an onion reveals its bare true skin, every person here has a hidden private self. This image is about that deep, human reality that everyone carries inside, just beneath the surface of the daily rush.

Alubọsa

Dwarfed against the Third Mainland Bridge, two teen boys move in practiced rhythm on their banana boat. One holds the paddle, one prepares the net. This is their tango, a dance learned young, choreographed by necessity. In a city that never stops, survival is finding your partner and learning the steps together. One leads, one follows. One navigates, one casts. The rhythm is trust, the music is hope, and the stage is water beneath infrastructure built for a different Lagos. This is how you dance when the city won't slow down for you.
